Two former Hobart College hockey players recently signed to play professionally with Les Remparts de Tours in the French Division 1 Hockey League. Statesmen goaltender Lino Chimienti ’16 (Montreal, Quebec) and forward Brad Robbins ’16 (Murrieta, Calif.) will continue as teammates in France in the upcoming season.
An AHCA and D3hockey.com All-American, Chimienti posted a Hobart record .946 save percentage in his senior season. The mark ranked second in Division III. He also sported a 1.71 goals against average which ranked eighth in the nation and second on the Statesmen single season list. Chimienti posted an 11-3-2 record. He turned aside all 30 shots he faced in a 5-0 win over Utica in the ECAC West tournament championship game, helping Hobart to its fourth ECAC West tournament title.
In 51 career games at Hobart, Chimienti logged 31 wins, a .921 save percentage, a 2.42 goals against average and three shutouts. The three-time ECAC West All-Academic selection ranks fourth on the Hobart career list for wins, fourth in save percentage, fourth in goals against average, tied for fourth in shutouts and sixth in saves (1,378).
“Hobart athletics is first class, from the athletic trainers, the strength and conditioning coaches to your team coaches they expect the very best from you as a student-athlete,” said Chimienti. “Coach Taylor has instituted a great hockey tradition and has instilled a winning mindset in all his players. Being part of a winning program such as Hobart hockey, where the goals include winning an NCAA championship every year, eases the transition to a professional league where hockey will now become my career and the quality of my performance will determine my success.”
Robbins transferred to Hobart as a junior. He garnered AHCA and D3hockey.com All-American honors. He led the Statesmen with 32 points and 19 goals in his senior season. Robbins tied a Hobart record for assists in a game with four in a 7-3 victory over Utica during the regular season. He notched three goals in ECAC West tournament play, including the game-winner in the championship game. Robbins was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player and earned a spot on the all-tournament team for his efforts.
Robbins played in 52 games as a Statesman. He notched 28 goals and 21 assists for 48 career points.
“Playing hockey at Hobart helped me mature as a hockey player and as a person, said Robbins. “Academically, I had to work hard to overcome obstacles, and I believe that skill will help me as I head to Europe. I learned so much in the final two years of college at Hobart that will help me succeed in my life after school.”
“I would like to thank the Statesmen Athletic Association, Athletic Director Mike Hanna, Coach Taylor, Coach Phalon and my teammates for the past four years. Without them pushing me day in and day out at practice and in the weight room, I would not have been able to achieve this goal that I set for myself of playing professional hockey after college,” added Chimienti.
