BROOKLYN – The New York Islanders announced that Ben Holmstrom has agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract.
Holmstrom, 29, posted 24 points (4G, 20A) in 76 games last season in his first year with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Holmstrom was named the Sound Tigers team captain in October 2015.
A native of Colorado Springs, CO, Holmstrom has appeared in seven regular-season NHL games with the Philadelphia Flyers. Holmstrom has played in 394 career AHL games with three different teams, totaling 166 points (58 goals, 108 assists) in his seven AHL seasons.
Prior to the AHL, Holmstrom played four seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell where he served as team captain for three years, collecting 84 points (26G, 58A) in 144 collegiate games. In 2009, Holmstrom won Hockey East’s Best Defensive Forward award in his senior season.
