The Syracuse Stampede have added assistant coach Kyle Althen to their staff for 2016-2017. Althen who hails from North Olmsted, Ohio is coming to the Stampede from the University of Akron after spending the past four seasons as a player with their ACHA program. Althen also played a large part in building the program over the past three seasons and stepped in as the GM / President of the program.

Prior to Akron, Kyle spent three seasons in junior hockey playing for both the Wooster Oilers and the Central Wisconsin Saints programs.

Stampede GM / Head Coach Mike Beavis states; “We were looking for a couple of guy’s that had some playing experience at the junior and college level that were interested in stepping into coaching rolls. Kyle fit the profile we were looking for on the operational side of the program as well as his on ice and recruiting capabilities. After spending time with Kyle in Pittsburgh at the America’s Showcase and giving him the opportunity to recruit on his own as well as some follow up assignments I knew he would be a great fit for us.”

Althen will graduate this May from Akron with a degree in Sports Management and relocate to the Morrisvill, NY. area to begin his new career shortly after graduation. “I am very excited to start my career with Syracuse and I look forward to working with players to help them develop and move on to the next level of play.” added Althen

The Stampede will be announcing two other additions to the coaching staff over the upcoming weeks as details become available.
