BUFFALO, NY – The New York Islanders selected four forwards and a defensemen on the second day of the 2016 National Hockey League Draft at First Niagara Center in Buffalo. Anatoli Golyshev (95th overall), Otto Koivula (120th overall), Collin Adams (170th overall), Nick Pastujov (193rd overall) and David Quenneville (200th overall) were selected in rounds four through seven.
Golyshev, 21, led Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg with 25 goals and 44 points in 56 games last season in the Kontinental Hockey League. His 25 goals ranked fourth in the KHL. Golyshev added one goal in six playoffs games for Yekaterinburg and was named to the 2015-16 KHL All-Star Team. The Perm, Russia native won a silver medal with Team Russia at the 2015 World Junior Championships in Toronto. The Islanders traded up to acquire Golyshev with the 95th overall pick, sending the Chicago Blackhawks the 110th overall pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick.
Koivula, 17, ranked third on Ilves Under-20 team in points (58) and second in goals (26), in 49 games in the Finnish Junior League (SM-Liiga). He collected 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in seven post-season games, en route to winning the league championship. The Nokia, Finland native was named “Playoffs Best Player.” The Islanders also made a deal to acquire Koivula at 120th overall, trading their 2017 fourth-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Adams, 18, ranked second on the Muskegon Lumberjacks in goals (27), assists (34) and points (61) in 59 games last season in the United States Hockey League. His 61 points for the Lumberjacks were sixth in the USHL. The Brighton, MI, native was named to the 2015-16 USHL All-Rookie Team. Adams is committed to play college hockey at the University of North Dakota next season.
Pastujov, 18, scored 21 points (13 goals, eight assists) in 60 games with the United States National Team Development Program. The Bradenton, FL, native won a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2015-16 Under-18 World Junior Championships in Switzerland, where he scored four points (three goals, one assits) in seven games. Pastujov is committed to play college hockey at the University of Michigan next season.
Quenneville, 18, led all Medicine Hat Tigers defensemen in scoring last season with 55 points (14 goals, 41 assists) in 64 games in the Western Hockey League. The Edmonton, AB. native led all blueliners in points at the Under-18 World Junior Championships in Switzerland, totaling eight points (five goals, thee assists) in seven games and earning a spot on the Under-18 WJC All-Star Team.
