BROOKLYN – The New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with forward Jason Chimera.
Chimera, 37, scored 40 points (20 goals, 20 assists) in 82 games last season with the Washington Capitals. He matched his career high in goals and posted the second-best points total of his 13-year NHL career.
In 951 career NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington, Chimera has scored 369 points (163 goals, 206 assists). He’s also scored 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists) in 69 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Edmonton Oilers selected Chimera in the fifth round (121st overall) of the 1997 NHL Draft. He scored a career-high 42 points and 27 assists with Washington in 2013-14. The durable forward has played in at least 77 games in each of the last six full (82-game) NHL seasons.
A native of Edmonton, AB, Chimera played with Team Canada at the World Championships in 2007 (gold), 2008 (silver) and 2014. He also won silver with Canada at the 1999 World Junior Championships.
