BINGHAMTON, NY – The Ottawa Senators have signed defenseman Fredrik Claesson to a one-year, two-way contract. The contract will carry an annual value of $700,000 in the National Hockey League and of $100,000 in the American Hockey League.

Claesson was selected in the fifth round by the Senators in the 2011 NHL Draft. Last season, the 23-year-old played in 55 games for the B-Sens, scoring three goals and helping on seven assists while adding up 50 minutes in penalties.

The native of Stockholm, Sweden was recalled by Ottawa on December 30 and made his NHL debut that same night against the New Jersey Devils. In 16 games with Ottawa, Claesson had two assists and two penalty minutes.

In his career, Claesson has played all of his 276 AHL games with the Binghamton Senators. The 6-foot-0, 205-pound defenseman has recorded 69 points (13 goals, 56 assists) and 182 penalty minutes.
