NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Three different Colgate men’s ice hockey players scored their first goals of the season Friday night as the Raiders lost in non-conference action to the Merrimack Warriors, 4-3, at Lawler Rink.
Jared Cockrell (Byfield, Massachusetts) recorded the first two points of his career, including his first career goal, to lead the Raiders against the Warriors.
Sebastian Weberg (Oslo, Norway) tallied a power-play goal early in the second period for his first power-play goal of the season and Hunter Racine (Ottawa, Ontario) tallied his first goal of the season.
Adam Dauda (Kitchener, Ontario) tallied two assists for the second consecutive game and Brett Corkey (Calgary, Alberta) also added two assists for his first points of the year.
Ross Craig (South Glengarry, Ontario) recorded his second career assist on Weberg’s second period power-play goal.
The Raiders trailed by two goals three separate times in Friday night’s game, and each time were able to cut the deficit to one but could not net the equalizer.
Weberg scored his power-play goal just 18 seconds after Merrimack took a 2-0 lead early in the second period. Craig got the puck to Cockrell along the boards where he centered the puck to Weberg in the faceoff circle. Weberg fired the puck past Merrimack goaltender Drew Vogler for the goal.
Early in the third period, the Raiders once again cut into a two-goal lead for the Warriors to make it 3-2 only 1:21 into the third period. Corkey fired the shot from the left point and Dauda jammed at the puck as well before Cockrell cleaned up the rebound for his first career goal.
Merrimack reclaimed a 4-2 lead midway through the third period as Ludvig Larsson cleaned up the rebound off a Logan Coomes shot from the left faceoff circle.
Colgate scored just over a minute later to make it 4-3 with 8:53 left in the third period. Dauda won the faceoff at center ice back to Corkey who then hit him back with a pass on the left side of the ice. Dauda sent a cross ice pass to Racine off the right boards where he one-timed a rocket past Vogler.
Colgate had two opportunities with a two-man advantage, including one late in the third period, but Merrimack held on to get the win.

The Warriors picked up their first win of the season to improve to 1-2-0 while the Raiders fall to 0-2-2.

“They pretty much had their way with us for two periods. They won all the races. They won a lot of the battles. We didn’t get enough out of our go-to guys, our top players were not our top players tonight and that’s a tough way to play a hockey game.
“We got better, we had our moments. We had some good minutes. Obviously in the third we started to come back and we had our power play opportunities. The disappointing goal for me was the fourth one that we gave up, we had a couple tired guys and we couldn’t get them off. The other guy made a good play but it’s disappointing, we still had a chance to win a game and maybe didn’t deserve to.”
