Kayla Vespa scored her first career goal, and Kennedy Marchment and Brooke Webster increased their point streak to 10 games to lead the St. Lawrence University women’s hockey team to a 2-0 win over Dartmouth in an ECAC Hockey game on Friday afternoon at Appleton Arena.
“We played with good pace tonight and we had some great efforts on the rush and around the net,” said head coach Chris Wells ’92. “We had good intensity throughout the game.”
Marchment scored the first goal of the game near the midway point of the first period, putting home a rebound off a shot by Webster, with Hannah Miller also picking up an assist on the play.
Kayla Vespa gave the Saints (6-0-1, 1-0-0 ECAC Hockey) a 2-0 lead in the second period. Senior captain Kirsten Padalis got the play started from behind her own net, finding Justine Reyes by the right hand side boards. Reyes hit Vespa in stride at center ice, and Vespa made a nice move around a defender to get free, beating Dartmouth goaltender Christie Honor with a shot between the legs for her first career goal.
St. Lawrence also had a stifling defensive effort, outshooting the Big Green 32-15. St. Lawrence sophomore Grace Harrison stopped every shot she faced to post her second shutout of the season. Honor finished with 30 saves for Dartmouth (0-3-0, 0-2-0 ECAC Hockey).
“Honor made some nice stops to keep the game 2-0 throughout the second half of the game,” said Wells.
The Saints will host Harvard on Saturday at 3 p.m.
