Fredonia Finished With a Flourish to Beat Morrisville, 6-2

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — After dropping an overtime home game the night before to Morrisville, Fredonia claimed a decisive 6-2 victory over the Mustangs on Saturday. The Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Morrisville came back to tie it at 2-all. The Devils scored the game’s final four goals — the last one an empty netter — to earn the win.

Jacob Haynes (Whitby, Ont. / Clovis Online) and Bobby Polachek (Kingston, Pa. / Wyoming Seminary) staked the Devils to the two-goal lead late in the first period. Haynes struck with 4:58 left to play in the first, and Polachek added a power play goal just over two minutes later.

Morrisville got on the board with a power play with 31 seconds left in the first.

The teams traded goals in the second period. Morrisville had its second power play score midway through the period. Polachek put things back in Fredonia’s favor, 3-2, with his second goal of the game and fourth of the season at the 14:11 mark.

The third period was all Fredonia with Samuel Wilbur (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic), Jimmy Morgan (Highlands Ranch, Col. / Highlands Ranch) and Jamie Young (Russell, Ohio / Gilmour Academy) all connecting. Morgan’s goal was on a power play.

WIlbur finished with three assists. Morgan, Polachek and Oskar Gerhardson (Ă…hus, Sweden / Malmo Borgarskola) each had one assist.

Eric Bogart (London, Ont. / Kimball Union Academy) made 26 saves for Fredonia. Jared Young had 32 saves for the Mustangs.

Fredonia outshot the Mustangs 38-28. Both teams had a pair of power plays.

The Devils improve to 3-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the SUNYAC. Morrisville falls to 1-6-1 and 1-4-1 in conference play.

Fredonia travels to Geneseo on Dec. 2.
