BINGHAMTON, NY. – Jack Rodewald and Kyle Flanagan each had a three-point night as the Binghamton Senators won their second game in as many nights with a 6-3 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Floyd L. Maines Memorial Arena on Saturday night.
Binghamton opened the scoring for the second night in a row after Zack Stortini got his second goal of the season at the 5:46 mark. Fredrik Claesson took a hard slap shot from the blue line that Stortini caught in front of the net and deflected in.
The Wolf Pack answered back with two goals over five minutes to take the 2-1 lead. Hartford capitalized on a power-play chance when Steven Kampfer held the puck at the center of the blue line and found Marek Hrivik in the right faceoff circle. John Gilmour picked up the secondary assist on Hrivik’s seventh goal of the year.
Mat Bodie doubled the lead after sending a slap shot from in between the faceoff circles past Chris Driedger’s blocker hand. Cristoval Nieves and Tanner Glass helped assist on Bodie’s second goal of the year. The home team went to the locker room for the first intermission trailing 2-1 despite outshooting their visitors 9-5.
The B-Sens scored three unanswered goals over the middle frame to take a 5-3 lead. Chris Carlisle had the tying tally for his first goal of the year after sending a shot from the blue line past Hartford’s starting goaltender Brandon Halverson with Flanagan and Rodewald earning the assists.
Francis Perron scored two back-to-back goals to double the lead to 4-2. Perron’s first goal of the night came from the right faceoff circle after he received a pass from Flanagan at the 6:30 mark. Perron’s second goal of the night came at the 8:57 point in a similar fashion from the right faceoff circle with Flanagan and Rodewald picking up the assists.
Rodewald cashed in on a goal of his own and pushed the score to 5-2 on a power-play chance with less than 10 minutes to play in the middle frame. Phil Varone took the puck and passed it to Michael Blunden who fired the initial shot from the left wing circle. After the save, Rodewald knocked home the rebound for his second goal of the year which ended Halverson’s night in net and in came Magnus Hellberg as relief. The B-Sens took the 5-2 lead to the final intermission of the game.
The Wolf Pack got one back after pulling Hellberg for an extra attacker with less than three minutes to play. Glass got his fifth goal of the year after deflecting a puck off his skate past Driedger with Nicklas Jensen and Hrivik getting the assists. Hartford pulled Hellberg again, but Casey Bailey scored an empty-net goal with help from Blunden and Varone to bring the final score to 6-3.
Driedger earned the win with 24 saves while Halverson was handed the loss stopping 13 shots faced.
