GENESEO N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo first-year forward Conlan Keenan notched two goals and two assists while senior forward Connor Anthoine and first-year defensemen Cam Russell had two assists apiece as the No. 9 Knights defeated visiting Brockport, 6-2, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, Saturday.
Keenan scored the lone goal of the first period with 2:25 remaining. Brockport (2-3-1, 2-3 SUNYAC) first-year forward Connor Hutchins opened the Golden Eagles’ scoring less than four minutes into the second period, but less than two minutes later, Keenan scored his second goal of the game to give Geneseo (4-1-1, 2-1 SUNYAC) the lead. Brockport scored with two minutes left to end the second period tied 2-2.
Four different Knights scored in the third period to put the game out of reach. Sophomore forward Zach Lynes scored the first goal of the period with 16:44 left. Russell, sophomore forward Arthur Gordon and first-year forward David Szmyd all scored in the last eight minutes of the period.
Four of the six Geneseo goals came off of the power play, while the Knights also out-shot the Golden Eagles, 44 to 24.
Sophomore goalkeeper Devin McDonald was credited with 22 saves to help Geneseo to their fourth win of the season.
Geneseo is back in action next Saturday (Nov. 26) as they visit Bowdoin in the first round of the Bowdoin/Colby Face-Off Classic.
