WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The No. 7/7 Oswego State women’s ice hockey team easily handled Williams College 7-2 on the road Saturday night. Oswego advances to 8-1-0 on the year while the Ephs drop below .500 at 1-2-0.
It was a third period explosion that helped the Lakers down Williams, recording five goals in the 20-minute stanza. Of those five goals, Alexa Aramburu registered three to complete her second-career hat trick. The first goal of the final period came from junior captain Olivia Ellis, which proved to be the game-winner. Sandwiched between Aramburu’s first and second goals was a notch from Andrea Noss.
It was freshman phenom Jacquelin White who posted the contest’s first tally, coming at the 14:36 mark of the opening period. White’s score was her eighth goal of the year – which leads Oswego – and was her 11th point of the season, tying her with Ellis for the Lakers’ most – at the time. The Royal Oak, Mich. native was assisted by classmate Madison Byrne, the freshman’s first collegiate point in her young career.
Ellis would not let the freshman get the last laugh, however, scoring the aforementioned goal along with three assists to regain the team lead for most points.
Senior defender Alli Ullirch scored the lone goal of the middle period, with helpers going to classmate Alyssa Brockmann and junior Monica Cramer. That goal made it a 2-0 Oswego advantage that lasted into the final intermission.
White chipped in two more assists on the night while Brockmann added another. Also aiding with assists was Julieann White and Kate Randazzo.
Junior goaltender Mariah Madrigal followed her career-high 48 saves in a win over No. 1/1 Plattsburgh last weekend with 29 saves against Williams to improve to 6-1-0 on the campaign.
The Lakers and Ephs will square off again on Sunday, with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m.
