WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The nationally-ranked Oswego State women’s ice hockey team handed Williams College its second loss in as many days, beating the Ephs 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. Oswego – which is ranked No. 7 in both national polls – improve to 9-1-0 on the year while Williams slips to 1-3-0.
A day after posting seven goals, the Lakers needed just one on Sunday, but it came from a familiar name. Alexa Aramburu – following her second-career hat trick in Saturday’s victory – scored the tilt’s only goal. The senior’s tally came at 16:16 of the middle period and was assisted by freshman Jacquelin White and junior Olivia Ellis. All three have been crucial in the squad’s hot start, as Ellis paces the team with 16 points on the year while White and Aramburu are tied in second with 14 each.
Oswego’s defense was the focal point in the triumph on Sunday, however, posting its third shutout of the campaign. The defensive unit was backed by an outstanding performance by junior goaltender Mariah Madrigal. In her second shutout of the season and seventh victory, Madrigal extinguished all 32 of the Ephs’ on-goal attempts. She has now made 25 or more saves in each of her last three outings, all culminating in wins.
The Lakers’ penalty kill was on point against Williams, not allowing any damage in two Eph opportunities.
Oswego will be home for its next four battles, starting with a two-game home stand with SUNY Canton. The first contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday.
