OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 7/7 Oswego State women’s ice hockey team (10-1-0) posted a lopsided 10-0 victory over visiting SUNY Canton (5-3-0) on Friday night in the Marano Campus Center Arena. Oswego was powered by a five-goal second period, its most goals in a period since posting six tallies in the third period of a 9-3 triumph at Chatham University on Jan. 14, 2012. The night prior in 2012, Oswego won 10-0 over the Cougars, which is now tied with Friday’s performance for most goals in a single-game in program history.
Oswego was aided by junior Olivia Ellis’ first-career hat trick, scoring once in each of the tilt’s periods. Ellis also had an assist on the evening for a four-point night, which was second-most behind only Alexa Aramburu’s five-point outing. The senior scored back-to-back tallies in the second period and assisted on three other Laker scores.
Also with multiple-point nights were juniors Andrea Noss and Monica Cramer along with senior Alli Ullrich. Noss scored once while dishing out two helpers, Ullrich split her night evenly with one of each while Cramer’s point both came on assists.
Other goal scorers for Oswego were Laura Thacker, Eryn Stewart and Madison Byrne. Rounding out Lakers with a point were Jacquelin White, Alyssa Brockmann and Kendall Appelbaum, all with one assist.
Mariah Madrigal played the entire game in net for Oswego, making the most of what little action she saw. The junior posted the third shutout of her season and the sixth of her career with eight saves, moving to 8-1-0 on the campaign.
Oswego was nearly perfect on special teams, scoring on four of its five power-play chances while halting Canton on all three of its extra-skater opportunities. The Lakers outshot the Kangaroos 35-8 on the night and won 12 more faceoffs (39-27).
Both teams will square off again on Saturday, with puck drop scheduled for 3 p.m.
