The Hobart College hockey team and Skidmore battled through overtime to a 2-2 tie in a non-league game played this afternoon in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The Statesmen are now 7-2-2 overall, while the Thoroughbreds are 6-4-1.
After scoring the game-winning goal to secure a 2-1 OT win last night, senior Nick Bingaman gave Hobart a 1-0 lead 7:22 into the first period after passes from classmate Bobby Sokol and sophomore Jack Macnee. Junior Vincent Russo made it 2-0 capitalizing on a power play 2:50 into the second.
Just 10 seconds later, Adam Moodie cut the Skidmore deficit back to one with a short-handed tally. With 2:43 left in the second, Corey Morgan tied things up for the Thoroughbreds off assists from Connor Van Arman and Sam Bloom.
Neither team was able to find the go-ahead goal in the third period or overtime. Each team logged 11 shots in the third, and Hobart held a slight 3-2 edge in shots in the extra frame. The Statesmen finished with a slight 41-38 edge in total shots.
Hobart went 1-for-8 on the power play and killed all five of the Thoroughbreds’ power-play attempts. First-year Alexander Connal played all 65 minutes and made 36 saves for the Statesmen. Jack McDonald made 39 saves in goal for Skidmore.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 9, when they host Trinity for a non-league game at 7 p.m.
