ORONO, ME – First year forward Jordi Naidrich netted her first career goal for the Union College women’s hockey team in a loss to University of Maine 2-1 Friday afternoon at Harold Alfond Sports Arena in Orono, ME.
The Black Bears struck first as Catherine Tufts won the race to puck after it pinballed around the crease. Tufts slotted home her fifth goal of the season to give Maine the advantage at the 5:09 mark of the first period.
Despite having three penalties in the period including a major for hitting from behind, the Black Bears held the goal lead heading into the first intermission. Union would answer quickly in the second period as at the 5:45 mark as senior forward Eastyn Yuen found Naidrich who found the back of the net for the first time in her Dutchwomen career. It was also the first career point for Yuen.
The score was all tied at 1-1 heading into the final period of play. It would not stay that way for long as Tufts scored her second of the day just 29 seconds into the third to put the Black Bears up for good.
The Dutchwomen outshot Maine 28-18 while winning 22-of-39 faceoffs. Union was unable to take advantage of its powerplay opportunities as it went 0-of-4 on the man advantage.
Union wraps up its two game set with the Black Bears tomorrow (Dec. 10) as puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Harold Alfond Sports Arena.
