BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Nick Paul scored late in regulation to pick up a point in an eventual 4-3 overtime loss to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers during the annual Teddy Bear Toss night at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday.
Jack Rodewald made the teddy bears fly 9:05 into the first period on a power-play chance. Chris Rumble saw an opportunity and passed the puck from the left faceoff circle to Rodewald who was skating cross-ice in front of the net and knocked one past Eamon McAdam. Macoy Erkamps earned his first American Hockey League point picking up an assist on Rodewald’s fourth goal of the season. The Binghamton Senators took the 1-0 lead to the first intermission outshooting Bridgeport 9-8.
The Sound Tigers answered back with a goal to tie up the game less than four minutes into the middle frame. Andrew Rowe fired in his first of the night and second of the year at 3:34 of the middle period to even the score 1-1.
Patrick Sieloff scored his second goal of the season to help give the lead back to the Binghamton Senators. Ben Harpur took Max McCormick’s pass to the boards by the left side of the offensive zone and found Sieloff alone at the top of the right faceoff circle. Sieloff sent a hard wrist shot that sailed by McAdam at the 8:48 mark of the period. The B-Sens went into the final intermission leading the Sound Tigers 2-3 and outshooting them 16-12 overall.
Rowe scored his second goal of the game just over a minute into the final frame to bring it to a 2-2 tie. Johnston took an initial shot that was stopped by skaters to the left of Chris Driedger who lost sight of the puck. Rowe found it free on the ice and scored his third goal of the season.
Josh Holmstrom gave Bridgeport its first lead of the night after a turnover in the B-Sens zone. Holmstrom intercepted the puck and took a shot that was deflected and fluttered by Dreidger for his second goal of the year. The unassisted goal came at the 13:50 mark of the third.
Paul responded with the equalizing goal with 1:05 left in regulation to force overtime. Working the puck with Driedger on the bench for the extra skater, Paul sent a shot by McAdam for his second of the season with assists from Casey Bailey and Jason Akeson. Paul’s goal forced the extra time with the B-Sens leading shots 31-21 overall.
The Sound Tigers converted 3:30 into overtime to take the extra point and the 4-3 win. Devon Toews skated down the right side and backhanded the puck underneath the pads of Driedger for the victory.
Driedger stopped 18 shots in the losing effort while McAdam earned the win with 30 saves.
The Binghamton Senators return to action on Wednesday, December 14, at 7:05 p.m. when the St. John’s IceCaps come to town.
