BUFFALO, NY – The Erie Community College Kats won their 10 Region III title in team history Saturday night defeating Region III rival, Mohawk Valley Community College, 5-2.
Following a scoreless first period ECC scored two goals in the second period. Anthony Cybulski (Cheektowaga, NY) gave the Kats a 1-0 lead early in the period.
Half-way through the period Alex Suchan (Hamburg, NY) gave ECC a 2-0 lead.
MVCC closed the gap, scoring at the 7:51 mark of the third period on a goal by Ryan Moffitt. But ECC came back seven minutes later when Cybulski scored his second goal of the night to give the Kats a 3-1 lead.
ECC then exploded for two more goals in the next four minutes to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Jaret Werner (West Seneca, NY) and Evan Domiano (Kenmore, NY) scored the goals for the Kats.
Hunter Pate rounded out the scoring for MVCC late in the third.
ECC outshot MVCC, 44-19. Tim Evans made 39 saves in a losing effort for MVCC.
