Buffalo State’s Erin Gehen (W. Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) and Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, Ca/Arroyo) were recognized today by the ECAC West as the league’s Player and Goalie of the Week respectively after leading the Bengals to a pair of conference wins over the weekend.
Gehen, a junior business major, had five points in the two wins. She picked up a goal and an assist in Friday’s 6-0 win over Neumann, and then netted a hat trick as the Bengals swept the Knights with a 7-1 win on Saturday. Gehen leads the Bengals with 18 goals and 27 points in 21 games this season. She is now tied for second in school history with 42 career goals, and also ranks second in points with 75, just four points behind Emma Wadsworth’s school record 79.
Silva, a junior majoring in forensic chemistry, was between the pipes for both wins, allowing just one goal while turning aside 57 of the 58 shots she faced. Silva made 32 saves for her third shutout of the season in Friday’s 6-0 win, and then had 25 saves in Saturday’s 7-1 victory.
