AMHERST – Emma Faso had a four goal, five point game to lead Amherst/Sweet Home/Clarence to a 6-5 victory over Kenmore/Grand Island Friday night at the Northtown Center at Amherst. It was one of three first-round games played as for of the 2017 WNYGVIHF Girls Federation Playoffs.
Hannah Gallivan and Olivia Smith each had two goals for KGI in a losing effort.
Faso got her team going late in the first period on a goal at 14:07 to give ASHC an early 1-0 lead. Charleigh Rundeau and Julia Mings assisted.
KGI came back at the 6:36 mark of the second stanza to tie the game, 1-1, on a goal by Gallivan. But ASHC struck back three minutes later on a goal by Mings.
ASHC increased their lead to two a minute later on Faso’s second goal of the game. But KGI came right back just seven seconds later to come within one on Gallivan’s second goal.
Just 27 seconds into the third period Faso struck again with her third goal of the night to give ASHC a 4-2 lead. Less than a minute later Smith scored his first of the night to make it 4-3.
Two minutes later ASHC scored again on Mings second goal and fourth point of the night to make it 5-3. Just 26 seconds after that Faso popped in her fourth goal of the game to make it 6-3.
But KGI would not go away quietly. At the 9:14 mark Smith scored his second goal to close the gap to 6-4.
Nina Stockman scored for KGI at 14:16 to make it 6-5. ASHC held on for the victory in the final seconds of the game.
