AMHERST – Holly Schmelzer scored 1:34 into the first overtime to give Williamsville a 4-3 victory over Amherst/Sweet Home/Clarence in a semi-final game of the WNYGVIHF Girls Hockey Federation playoffs Thursday afternoon. The game was played at the Northtown Center at Amherst.
Jenna Cavalieri scored two goals for Williamsville while Julia Mings tallied two for the Katz in a losing effort.
Williamsville opened the scoring at 6:29 of the first period on the first of two goals scored by Cavalieri. Elizabeth Sidorski and Samantha Ingham assisted.
The Katz came back to tie it, 1-1 six minutes later on Mings first goal of the afternoon. Nicole Moore assisted.
Laura Kaplan gave Williamsville a 2-1 lead just a minute later. Amanda Gaffney assisted.
The Katz tied the score early in the second period when Mings tallied her second goal of the afternoon at 2:21. Lilly Adimeyassisted.
But Williamsville would take the lead again, 3-2, on Cavalieri’s second goal of the game. Kelly Dormer assisted.
The Katz tied it up again at 11:02 of the second on a goal by Sam Czora. Lilly Adimey got her second assist of the game on that goal.
The two teams went scoreless in the third period before the OT winner by Schmelzer.
Williamsville will go on to play in the girls championship game scheduled to be played on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. at HarborCenter in Buffalo.
