Former Hobart College hockey defenseman Bronson Kovacs ’15 was recently tabbed the Most Valuable Player for the first round of playoffs in the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federations’ MOL Liga.
Kovacs is playing his second season in Hungary and his first season with MAC Budapest. He garnered MVP honors after scoring four goals in five games and his team advanced to the second round of playoffs. Bronson registered nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points during the regular season and has added seven points on six goals and an assist so far in postseason play.
A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Kovacs has dual citizenship as a Canadian and Hungarian, and his grandfather, the late Zoltan Kovacs, Sr., was a native of Keszthely, Hungary.
In his time at Hobart, Kovacs served as team captain his senior season and as an alternate captain as a junior. He helped lead the Statesmen to their fifth NCAA tournament appearance in program history. Kovacs played in 98 career games, logging 19 goals and 26 assists for 45 career points. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and anthropology in May and was a three-time member of the ECAC West All-Academic team.
Kovacs and the Hobart hockey Class of 2015 finished with a 70-31-7 four-year record, earning two ECAC West regular season and tournament titles.
