BROOKLYN, NY, June 16, 2017 – Ric Seiling, general manager and co-coach of the 2017 Isobel Cup champion Buffalo Beauts, formally announced the re-signing of the following players:
Goaltenders Amanda Leveille and Kelsey Neumann
Defenders Jordyn Burns, Sarah Casorso and Kayla Parsons
Forward Hayley Scamurra
“These returning players will help guide our team with their leadership, experience and talent,” said Seiling. “We are glad to have them return to the Blue and Black.”
In addition, the club has signed rookie free agent Jordan Ott, a forward from SUNY-Potsdam who was offered a contract after an impressive showing at a free agent camp conducted by the Beauts last weekend. In four years at Potsdam, Ott had 61 goals and 46 assists for 107 points – an NCAA-era record at the school.
Along with the previously-announced Corinne Buie, Buffalo now has eight players under contract for the 2017-18 NWHL season.
“It’s exciting to know that I’ll be back with so many of my teammates to take on the challenge of defending the Isobel Cup,” said Casorso, who will enter her second year with the club. “With the Beauts, it’s like being with family. I’m really happy to be in Buffalo for another season.”
Casorso played five years at the University of British Columbia and one season in Austria before joining the NWHL in 2016-17. She had 7 assists in 16 regular season games last season. Burns, who played one year at Syracuse before transferring to Michigan for her final two seasons of collegiate hockey, had 2 assists in 15 games with the Beauts last season. Parsons played four years at Norwich before joining the Beauts. She was scoreless in ten games in 2016-17.
After an outstanding collegiate career at Northeastern, Scamurra brought magic to the Beauts. Joining the team before its final regular season game after Northeastern’s season ended, Scamurra had 2 goals and 3 assists over 3 games and was a big part of Buffalo’s Isobel Cup run.
The Beauts may not have reached the final without an outstanding performance in goal (a .944 save percentage) by Leveille in the team’s semifinal win in Newark over the Riveters. For the regular season, Leveille was 4-2. She played four seasons at the University of Minnesota. Neumann was one of four recipients last season of the NWHL Foundation Award, given to the players most actively applying the core values of hockey to her community as well as growing the game and improving hockey culture.
