BROOKLYN, NY, June 20, 2017 – The National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) and Twitter today announced a global broadcast deal for the 2017-18 season. Following the company’s recently-announced deal with the WNBA, this is the second Twitter live streaming collaboration featuring a professional women’s sports league on its platform.

The “Twitter NWHL Game of the Week” will feature the league’s four teams: the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale and New York Riveters. Twitter will also broadcast the 2018 NWHL All-Star Game and two games from the NWHL/Team Russia Summit Series. The 19 games will be produced by the NWHL and will be exclusive to Twitter in the live windows. The schedule for the “Twitter NWHL Game of the Week” is expected to be announced in September.

The global live stream will be available for free to logged-in and logged-out users on Twitter and connected devices. Fans will be able to access the live stream at NWHL.twitter.com or on @NWHL.

“With this partnership, Twitter will expand the NWHL audience and give these professional women’s hockey players the major platform they deserve,” said NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan. “This is a big and important step forward for our league as we approach our third season. I want to thank Twitter for its dedication to women’s sports.”

“We are thrilled to feature more live professional women’s sports on Twitter by collaborating with the NWHL,” said Anthony Noto, Twitter COO. “Fans around the world will now be able to view live the fast-paced, exciting action on the ice on the same platform where the conversation about hockey is happening.”

As part of the agreement, Twitter and the NWHL will collaborate on marketing and promotion of the league and broadcasts. The live stream on Twitter will also include advertising packages with TV style ad spots.
