The Utica College men’s hockey team lost 8-1 on Sunday against an experienced and talented Grenoble team. The contest was the Pioneers second of four games over the course of their nine day excursion in Southeastern France. Utica’s Zach Borsoi (Brossard, Quebec/Gloucester (CCHL)) recorded the lone power-play tally of the evening for the Pioneers. Borsoi’s goal was assisted by Devin Warfield (Raleigh, NC/Daniel Webster (D3-Ind.)) and Luc Boby (Chicago, IL/Kalamazoo (NAHL)).

Utica fell into an early 4-1 first period hole and surrendered two goals in each of the final two periods. Grenoble earned a 60-32 shot advantage on the afternoon.

All three of Utica’s goalies played one period. Patrik Virtanen (Vantaa, Finland/Lincoln (USHL)) earned the start in net, while Gianluca Baggetta (Maple, Ontario/North York (OJHL)) and Henry Dill (Columbus, OH/UMASS (Hockey East)) came on in relief. Each goalie faced 20 shots.
The Pioneers will have one day off before taking on Grenoble in a rematch Tuesday.

Utica is now 8-2 all-time in international play.

Every three years the NCAA permits college teams to take part in an international exchange trip intended to expose the student-athletes to different cultures.
