Wilson, Koch, Bruns, and Cooley Earn TTUSA Weekly Awards
With the regular season now fully underway, Atlantic Hockey has a complete set of weekly award winners this week. Taking home honors are Army West Point’s Michael Wilson and Cole Bruns, Air Force’s Matt Koch, and Niagara’s Eric Cooley.
Player of the Week
Michael Wilson – Army West Point
Sophomore, Forward – Fon Du Lac, WI/Minnesota Magicians
Wilson tallied four points in Army’s opening-weekend sweep at AIC. He scored a goal and had three assists in Army’s 5-1 win over AIC on Friday, then had a blocked shot in Saturday’s 2-1 victory. He finished the weekend plus-3 with two blocks and played on a first line that produced 10 points against AIC.
Defensive Player of the Week
Matt Koch – Air Force
Junior, Defense – Hastings, MN/Wichita Falls Wildcats
Koch helped Air Force to a 1-0-1 record at Alaska Fairbanks on opening weekend, recording two points and four blocks in the two games. He had the game’s first goal and added an assist in Friday’s 3-2 victory, tying his career high for points in a game. He had two blocks in each game for the Falcons.
Goalie of the Week
Cole Bruns – Army West Point
Senior, Goalie – Prairie Grove, IL/Omaha
Bruns earned his first wins since the 2014-15 season, his freshman year, in the season-opening series at AIC. Bruns totaled 63 saves and allowed just two goals over the weekend, helping Army start 2-0-0 in the conference for the second-straight year. He made 38 saves in Saturday’s 2-1 win, including 13 in the third period with Army clinging to a one-goal lead.
Rookie of the Week
Eric Cooley – Niagara
Freshman, Fowrard – Pittsburgh, PA/Amarillo Bulls
Cooley notched the first point of his collegiate career in Niagara’s 4-3 overtime win over Robert Morris on Friday. He picked-up an assist on Keegan Harper’s third-period goal which gave the Purple Eagles a 3-1 lead over the Colonials. Cooley was also plus-1 on the night.
