SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team (1-4-1) came up short, 3-2, in an overtime contest against Providence (4-2-0), Saturday afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Sophomore Kelli Rowswell recorded the first goal for the Orange, extending her scoring streak to three games.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
After outshooting the Friars 7-5 in the first period, the Orange capitalized on a scrum in front of the net and Rowswell snuck the puck past the net-minder for her third goal of the season. Just over a minute later, freshman Victoria Klimek buried a wrist shot in the back of the net for her first collegiate goal, making the score 2-0, ‘Cuse.
The Friars would not go down without a fight, tallying two third period goals to send the game into 5-on-5 overtime. A little over three minutes into overtime, Meaghan Rickard notched the game-winner on a breakaway shot for her second goal of the game.
OF NOTE
Klimek and senior Alysha Burriss are both riding two-game point streaks after posting a goal and an assist, respectively against Providence in the series finale. The pair each recorded an assist in game one against the Friars on Friday.
