ROCHESTER, NY – Joseph Campolieto and Parker Foo notched their first collegiate goals to help the Union College men’s hockey team defeat RIT, 6-1, on Friday night at the Gene Polisseni Center.

Six different skaters scored and 12 total skaters recorded a point as Union posted their highest-scoring game since an 8-3 win over Dartmouth in February of last season. The win also snaps a five-game losing streak that haunted the Dutchmen since the start of the season.

With the shadow of the winning drought looming overheard, the Dutchmen came out buzzing in the first period, intent on showing RIT that they were going to leave the rink victorious.

Just more than three minutes into the game, Greg Campbell put the first of six behind RIT goaltender Christian Short. Campbell collected the puck in the neutral zone and skated in before sniping it over the shoulder of Short.

Less than 10 minutes later, Brett Supinski scored his team-best fourth goal and eventual game winner. At the half boards, Supinski fired the puck on net that made its way through traffic and through Short’s five hole.

Campolieto then scored his first career goal just 24 seconds later to put Union up 3-0, as the Dutchmen went on to out-shot the Tigers, 13-3, in the first period.

RIT woke up in the second period, but Union continued to dominate despite the Tigers scoring their lone goal of the game during the period.

With a 3-1 lead, Foo scored the first goal of his career off a rebound while Union was on the power play. The Dutchmen quickly added a fifth goal on another power play, this time off a one-timer blast from J.C. Brassard.

With an insurmountable deficit, the Tigers didn’t give up in the third period and ended up out-shooting Union, 14-6, in the final period of play. Hanson stood tall in his collegiate debut and turned away all 14 shots he faced in the period, including seven while shorthanded.

Brendan Taylor scored his second of the season at the 8:33 mark to cap off the offensive blitz for Union.

The Dutchmen went 2-for-5 on the power play, while being perfect on the penalty kill (4-for-4).

Union finishes the weekend against Niagara on Saturday, Oct. 21. The game against the Purple Eagles is slated begin at 7:05 p.m. (ET).
