ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women’s hockey (3-4-1, 1-1-0 CHA) team fell to College Hockey America rival Lindenwood University (2-5-1, 2-2-0 CHA) 6-0 on Saturday afternoon from the Gene Polisseni Center.
“It was a tough game for us, as a lack of effort throughout our entire lineup sunk us early, especially in the first period,” said Bruce B. Bates Women’s Hockey Coach Scott McDonald. “We need to learn how to play a lot stronger and tougher in back-to-back games.”
The Lady Lions took a 4-0 lead in the first period, scoring three times within two minutes, while adding a tally later in the frame.
Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary’s Catholic) had a shot with 10 minutes remaining, in the first that resulted in a scrum in front of the goal but was stopped by Lindenwood goaltender Sarah McGall.
Lindenwood’s Cierra Paisley and Hannah Alt both scored in the second period to make it 6-0 over RIT. Brittney Gout (Caledon, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) had a chance in front of the Lindenwood goal with 13:45 remaining in the second, but fired it wide.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the third period. RIT’s best chance came from Kandice Sheriff (Brampton, Ontario/) with 8:50 remaining. Sheriff riffled a shot on net but McGall was able to get a glove on it.
Kaelyn Johnson (Toronto, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs), Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary’s Catholic) and Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) each had three shots for RIT. Gout was 8-for-15 on faceoffs.
Shot were 23-16 in favor of Lindenwood. Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) earned the start in net for thw Tigers and took the loss. Jenna de Jonge (Abbotsford, British Columbia/George Elliot) played nearly 34 minutes, stopping nine shots, while Jessi O’Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Athol Murray) stopped all six shots she faced in the third period.
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 10-7-4. The Tigers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Lindenwood, 4-3 last night. Johnson scored the game-winning goal in the third period. The two teams also meet for a pair of games at Lindenwood on Jan. 26-27, 2018.
RIT returns to action next weekend with a pair of non-conference road games at Boston University on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4.
