ANNVILLE, Pa. – Following a 27-save effort in the 2017-18 season-opener on Friday, junior Tyler Feaver (Whitby, Ont./Whitby Fury (OJHL)) of the Manhattanville College men’s hockey team was named the inaugural Middle Atlantic Conference Men’s Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday morning.
Feaver was very sharp in the first outing of the new season on Friday night against Morrisville State College, turning aside 27 of the 29 shots he faced in the 2-2 (OT) tie. The junior made 13 saves alone in the third period when the Valiants were shorthanded for more than 11 minutes and outshot by a 15-4 margin. Both goals Feaver allowed were on the power play, including one at the very end of a five-on-three advantage.
Feaver is the first men’s hockey player to be recognized with a weekly award from the Middle Atlantic Conference, as the MAC begins its first year of sponsoring men’s and women’s ice hockey as a conference sport. Manhattanville is joined in the MAC by King’s (Pa.) College, Lebanon Valley College and Stevenson University.
As a sophomore, Feaver was named to the All-ECAC West Conference second team after posting a 12-9-1 record with a 3.12 goals against average and .891 save percentage in 23 appearances between the pipes.
