William Smith College first-year defender Lexi Nottke (Reading, Mass./ Kimball Union) was named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week following a strong opening weekend on the blue line for the Herons.

Nottke compiled four assists in her first two games as a collegian. She registered a pair of assists in each game against Salve Regina. Nottke was also a key member of the Herons’ penalty kill unit that held the Seahawks scoreless in their six power play attempts, allowing just four shots with the extra skater.

On Friday, Nottke set up Krista Federow’s second goal of the game at 12:04 of the second period for her first collegiate point. Late in the third period she assisted on classmate Julia Mings’ first collegiate goal.

The next day, Nottke built on her opening night performance with another strong game. She set up Stephanie Hampton’s goal at 16:51 of the first period. She kept the play alive, saving a bouncing puck along the blue line. Nottke then set up Gina Scibetta’s 4-on-4 goal in the closing minutes of the second period. After a defensive zone faceoff victory, she passed the puck below the goal line to Egan Sachs-Hecht, who fired the puck to Scibetta in the neutral zone.

Nottke’s two assists in both games are tied for third most assists in a single-game in program history. Only Jordan Roetzer and Federow have had more in a game, three. Roetzer had three assists on Nov. 18, 2016, against Chatham and Federow had three on Saturday.

After a weekend off, William Smith will be back in action Nov. 10-11 when it makes its first trip to Owings Mills, Md. The Herons will begin United Collegiate Hokey Conference play against Stevenson.
