ELMIRA, N.Y. — Following a weekend split against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents, Matthew Cuce ’20 and Harry Kramer ’20 of the Elmira College men’s ice hockey team have been named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week.

Cuce, who was also named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Player of the Week, played the hero in Elmira’s 3-2 overtime win over No. 10/9 nationally-ranked Hobart College in the 2017-18 season opener. The Fort Myers, Florida, native scored twice against the Statesmen, including the game-winning goal that came 2:52 into the overtime session. For Cuce, it was his second multi-goal game and second game-winning goal of his collegiate career.

Kramer had a standout weekend from the blue line for the Soaring Eagles, as the Wexford, Pennsylvania, native totaled three points in Elmira’s first two games of the year. He was credited with two assists in the win over Hobart, including EC’s first goal and Cuce’s game-winner, both of which were primary assists. Then in Saturday night’s road loss to No. 7/7-ranked Oswego State, Kramer earned the primary assist on Elmira’s game-opening power-play score. The sophomore defenseman has points in back-to-back games for Elmira and his point streak is at three games dating back to the 2016-17 season finale.

Cuce and Kramer will be looked upon to continue their stellar play this weekend when the Soaring Eagles open UCHC play against Manhattanville College and King’s College (Pa.). Elmira welcomes the Valiants of Manhattanville to the Murray Athletic Center for a 7:00 p.m. tilt this Friday, November 3. The following night will pit the Purple and Gold against the Monarchs in another 7:00 p.m. conference game at the MAC.
