Freshman center Josh Dickinson (Georgetown, ONT) led the way offensively for Clarkson University on Friday night in Providence, RI, recording his first career two-goal game in the Golden Knights’ 5-3 win over Brown.

Off to a 3-0 start in ECAC Hockey play for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign, the 9th/11th-ranked Knights improved their record to 7-3-1 overall. Clarkson plays Saturday night in New Haven, CT, facing off against Yale in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Ingalls Rink.

Clarkson’s top line was held to just once assist against Brown (1-4-0, 1-4-0), but the Knights received key secondary scoring to start its seven-game road trip. Along with Dickinson’s two-goal effort, the Green and Gold also received a two-point night from freshman Kevin Charyszyn (Jamison, PA), including his first career score, and one goal each from rookie defenseman Jere Astren (Helsinki, Finland) and sophomore Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia). Jack Jacome (Caledon, ONT), the right wing on the Knights’ freshman line, put up three assists.

Carrying over the momentum from last weekend’s sweep of RPI and Union, the Knights jumped on Brown right from the start and grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of early goals 23 seconds apart.

Charyszyn started things off with his first collegiate goal at 3:23, deflecting in a shot by Jacome for a power-play tally. Senior defenseman Tyko Karjalainen (Helsinki, Finland) also set up the goal for his fifth assist in the past three games.

Playing in his first game of the season after missing the first 10 recovering from an injury, Egle found a loose put in the left circle and put in a shot at 3:46. Sophomore defenseman Greg Moro (Edmonton, ALB) assisted.

Brown answered back with a power-play goal by Charlie Corcoran at 9:07.

With 11 seconds remaining in the period, Dickinson converted a pass while on the power play from Jacome for his first goal of the night, giving Clarkson a 3-1 lead.

Astren made it 4-1 at 8:49 of the middle frame with Clarkson’s third power-play goal of the night. Charyszyn and Jacome set up the play. For Jacome that was his sixth assist in the past three games and seventh on the season.

The Bears made it a one-goal game, scoring the next two goals. Alec Mehr tallied for the home team at 14:09 of the second and Zach Giuttari connected on the power play at 6:01 of the final frame to cut Clarkson’s lead to 4-3.

Dickinson, who has a three-game goal-scoring streak, closed out the night with his fourth goal of the year, an empty-net tally with 25 seconds remaining. Sophomore Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) picked up the assist.

The Knights’ power play continued its torrid pace with a 3-of-7 effort. Clarkson has scored eight power-play goals over the last three games, and is clicking at 28.9% overall (13-45) on the season.

Brown outshot Clarkson 35-28, but sophomore goaltender Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) put in another solid effort with a 32-save outing.
