BUFFALO, N.Y.—Freshman Sam Maddox (St. Louis, MO/Lindburgh) scored the first three goals of his collegiate career and added an assist as Buffalo State raced past visiting Chatham, 9-1, tonight for a non-conference victory at the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Maddox and line mates, Anthony Passero (Fort Erie, ON/Lakeshore) and Zach Nieminen (Ajax, ON/Notre Dame CSS) filled up the scoresheet with 11 combined points. Passero picked up four assists, and Nieminen tallied a goal and two assists.
Michael Anthony Guerrera (Montreal, QC/OHA) scored a pair of goals, while Hugo Petit (Chelsea, QC/CIH Acad.) and Connor Zak (Amherst, NY/Nichols) chipped in a goal and an assist each. Reid Bibb (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) also scored for the Bengals.
Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) picked up three assists, and Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallinn, Estonia) had a pair of helpers.
Connor Minch (Manchester, NH/Manchester Central) stopped all 14 shots he faced, before Ryan Lund (Anchorage, AK/Kimball Union) played the final 6:32 and allowed one goal on three shots.
Buffalo State outshot the Cougars, 43-17. The Bengals were 3 for 6 on the power play, while Chatham was 0 for 3.
Buffalo State jumped out to a 4-0 lead, outshooting Chatham, 16-2, in the first period.
The Bengals extended the lead to 6-0 by the second intermission. The Cougars netted their lone goal with just over six minutes remaining, but the Bengals continued to pull away with three third-period goals.
