RPI Women’s Hockey Loses To Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Melissa Samoskevich scored midway through the third period to lift the Quinnipiac University women’s hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday afternoon at TD Bank Sports Center. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 7-6-0 overall (3-3-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 4-6-2 (2-1-1 ECAC Hockey).

Taylor House opened the scoring at 6:59 of the second period, with the lone assist going to Raquel Pennoyer.

Rensselaer pulled even late in the period, when Jaimie Grigsby netted her third goal of the season, from Josefine Hansen. The equalizing tally came at 19:41.

Samoskevich potted the eventual game-winner at 9:41 of the third. MacKenzie Lancaster earned the assist on Samoskevich’s fifth goal of the year.

Abbey Ives (6-5-0) made 21 saves, including all 10 shots she faced in the third period. Lovisa Selander (4-6-2) had 28 stops, with 11 coming in the third.

The Engineers are back in action next weekend, when they host New Hampshire for a two-game series on Saturday (3pm) and Sunday (2pm). Quinnipiac visits Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (3pm).
