The Hobart College ice hockey team moved up two spots to No. 8 in the USCHO.com poll this week, and remained at No. 6 in the D3hockey.com poll. In addition, first-year defenseman Mike Faulkner (Brunswick School/Bronx, N.Y.) was named to the NEHC’s weekly honor roll.
The Statesmen (4-1-1, 3-0-1 NEHC) rank second in the NEHC and are tied for 13th in the nation in scoring offense (4.17 g/gm). Hobart is also second in the conference and ninth in Division III in scoring defense (1.67 ga/gm). The Statesmen lead the league and rank fifth in the nation on the power play (29.6%). Hobart is unbeaten in five games. Only Augusburg is riding a longer unbeaten streak.
Faulkner led Hobart with three points on a goal and two assists in a 1-0-1 NEHC weekend. He earned an assist in a 6-1 victory over Castleton on Friday night. Faulkner registered Hobart’s first goal and assisted on the game-tying goal in a 2-2 draw with then No. 3/4 Norwich on Saturday. Faulkner leads the Statesmen with nine points on two goals and seven assists this season.
Faulkner is tied for first in the nation in defenseman scoring. He is tied for second in the NEHC in assists and is tied for 10th in the nation in assists per game (1.40). Faulkner ranks second in Division III and is tied for second in the conference in first-year scoring (1.80 ppg).
The Statesmen are back in action with two NEHC games this weekend. Hobart travels to UMass Boston (5-1-0, 3-1-0 NEHC) on Friday for a 7 p.m. game and then plays at Babson (3-2-0, 3-1-0 NEHC) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
