ITHACA, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey announced Tuesday that Cornell freshman Matthew Galajda has been named the league’s Goaltender of the Week after he backstopped the Big Red to a weekend sweep of Ivy League rivals Dartmouth and Harvard at Lynah Rink.

Galajda earmed his second shutout in just his fifth collegiate start, making 16 saves to blank Dartmouth in Cornell’s 3-0 victory on Friday. He followed that up with 22 saves the following night, as the Big Red battled back to defeat Harvard on Saturday, 3-2, on the strength of a goal with 2.3 seconds remaining. Galajda earned the Big Red’s second ECAC Hockey weekly award of the season, with senior forward Trevor Yates being named the Player of the Week on Oct. 31.

Galajda’s two shutouts are tied for the second-most in program history for a freshman goaltender. Only All-American David McKee had more (five; 2003-04), and Galajda joins senior Hayden Stewart (2014-15) and Brian Hayward (1978-79) as the only others with two.
