SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Fredonia was unable to complete its comeback Saturday, falling 3-2 to Skidmore in men’s hockey during the opening game of the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational at the Saratoga Springs City Rink

The Blue Devils (3-4-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of goals in the third period. Kyle Jelinski (Edmonton, Alberta) cut the deficit at 7:20 of the third period with his first goal of the season. Just 56 seconds later, Tyler Riter (Buffalo, N.Y.) evened the score, 2-2, with an unassisted goal at the 8:14 mark. It was his second goal of the year.

Skidmore’s Tim Allen scored the game-winner at 11:46 of the third period.

Matt Bernot gave Skidmore a 1-0 lead at 4:34 of the first period. Matt Muzyka made it 2-0 early in the first period with a power-play goal. Muzyka also assist on Allen’s game-winner. The Thoroughbreds improved to 1-6-1.

Eric Bogart (London, Ont.) made 32 saves in the Fredonia net. Bobby Polachek (Kingston, Pa.) and Sean Leonard (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) earned assists on Jelinski’s goal.

The Blue Devils will play in Sunday’s 1 p.m. consolation game against the loser of Saturday’s other game between SUNY Canton and No. 8 ranked Hamilton.
