Saratoga, NY – Joe Deveny scored his third goal of the season but Rory Gagnon netted a hat trick for No. 8 nationally-ranked Hamilton College in a 3-1 win for the Continentals on Saturday in the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational.
The Roos (2-4-0) dominated play in the opening period outshooting Hamilton (2-0-1) 14-7 but the No. 8/10 Continentals scored with just eight seconds left in the first period as Rory Gagnon lit the lamp on the power play.
The Roos knotted the game at one apiece at 13:40 of the middle period when Josh Sova hit Joe Deveny with a cross ice pass from right to left in the slot as he beat Hamilton goaltender Anthony Tirabassi glove side. Reily McIntosh also earned a helper on Deveny’s third goal of the season.
Gagnon scored his second of the game at 9:31 of the third period to give Hamilton the lead. The Roos went on the power play with 2:26 remaining and pulled the goalie 27 seconds later for the 6-on-4 skater advantage. The Roos generated pressure looking for the equalizer and got one shot on target but Gagnon completed the hat trick with 12 seconds remaining on the empty-netter to seal the win.
Austin Washkurak made 33 saves for the Roos, while Tirabassi made 27 stops for Hamilton. The Continentals were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Roos were 0-for-4 with the skater advantage.
