HOW IT HAPPENED
Trinity opened the scoring in the closing minutes of the first period, striking on a 4-on-3 power play.
The Bengals dominated the second period, outshooting the Bantams, 18-4, and finally broke through in the final minute on sophomore defenseman Cheyenne Matson’s (Wasilla, AK/Matsu Career & Tech) first collegiate goal. Emma Ruggiero (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) and Natasha Steinle (Morrison, CO/CIHA) picked up the assists.
The Bantams reclaimed the lead just 1:43 into the third period with a power-play goal, however, and then doubled their lead in the middle of the frame.
Bri Carroll (Peoria, AZ/AZ Virtual Academy) fired home her second goal of the season with just over two minutes remaining to cut the lead in half, but Trinity would seal the win with an empty-netter in the closing seconds.
Buffalo State outshot Trinity 35-24 for the game, including 29-12 over the final 40 minutes.
Bri Gawronski (Dunkirk, NY/Mt. Mercy) finished with 20 saves in the loss.
