CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Oswego women’s ice hockey team completed a home-and-home two-game sweep of Cortland with a 2-0 victory Saturday afternoon in NEWHL action at Alumni Arena. With the setback, the Red Dragons fel to 2-6-2 overall and 1-5 in the conference. The Lakers improved to 5-6 and 3-3.
Sophomore goalie Rachael Farmer (Grand Island/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) started her 10th straight game in the net for Cortland, turning aside 26 shots. Sophomore goalie Amber Samonek (Cary, IL/Chicago Mission U19) made 14 saves in posting the shutout for Oswego.
Senioir Andrea Noss (Orange, CT/Connecticut Polar Bears) and freshman Emma Morisette (Wyandotte, MI/HoneyBaked Hockey Club) netted goals for the Lakers. Seniors Olivia Ellis (Wilcox, SK/Notre Dame Hounds) and Sarah Grupp (Charlottesville, VA/Reston Raiders) and sophomore Kate Randazzo (Ancaster, ON/Burlington Barracudas) each recorded an assist.
Noss scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on the power play at 4:29 of the first period, knocking in a rebound after Farmer made a save on Ellis. Morisette’s rebound goal at 12:24 of the second period made it a 2-0 score heading into the final 20 minutes. After the Lakers were whistled for a penalty with 1:03 remaining in the game, Cortland pulled Farmer for an extra skater but could not get a shot past Samonek.
