William Smith College senior goalie Maggie Salmon (Medford, Mass. / The Governor’s Academy) was named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference goalie of the Week by the conference office today. This is the second time this season that Salmon has won the award.
The Herons are coming off a 1-0-1 weekend against Neumann in Aston, Pa., that saw them move three points clear of the Knights for second place in the UCHC standings. William Smith and Neumann skated to a 2-2 tie on Friday. On Saturday, the Herons scored twice in the third period to secure a 4-1 victory.
Salmon played 124:52 in goal for the Herons over the weekend. She stopped 60 of the 63 shots she faced, finishing the weekend with a .952 save percentage. On Friday, Salmon made a season-high 36 stops, including 17 in the third period and overtime. The next day she made 24 saves, collecting her sixth win of the season. Salmon made her biggest save of the game in the first period when she stopped a Neumann penalty shot with the game tied 1-1.
Salmon is 6-0-2 with a .952 save percentage and a 1.23 goals against average. Her six wins this season match her career-high set last season. Salmon is second in the conference and ninth in the nation in goals against average. She is also second in the conference in save percentage.
William Smith will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 8, when it hosts Cortland at The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Two lucky fans in attendance at Friday’s game will win an autographed photo of two-time US Women’s Ice Hockey Olympian Kacey Bellamy.
