NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Army West Point hockey team suffered a 4-1 deficit to Merrimack on the road Friday night. The Black Knights opened the game with a goal, but four strikes by the Warriors put the game out of reach.
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
This was Army’s first out of conference loss of the 2017-18 season.
Brendan Soucie returned to the Black Knights’ lineup after four games off and netted the lone goal on the night.
It was the sophomore’s second goal of the season and 17th of his career.
The play was assisted by classmate Dominic Franco. He now boasts 11 assists and a team-best 16 points on the season.
Tonight’s game marked the third time that the Black Knights lost after scoring the first goal.
It was also the second time this season a team scored four unanswered against Army.
The Warriors put the game away with their final three goals coming on the power play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Army saw a promising start taking an early 1-0 lead over the Warriors.
Franco drove to the right side of the zone and threw it to the net which Soucie was able to clip and get past Craig Pantano on the back door tip.
The Black Knights maintained their lead for six minutes until Merrimack tied things up with 6:17 to go.
The Warriors kept things rolling however with a man-up goal with 21 seconds remaining in the first period.
Merrimack scored again three minutes into the middle frame also on the power play.
The Warriors’ final goal of the night was also on the man advantage and was 13 seconds into play in the third period.
