RIT Women’s Hockey Swept By Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, MN – The RIT women’s hockey team (4-14-2) dropped its second game of the weekend, falling to Bemidji State University (8-10-2) by a score of 3-1 from the Sanford Center on Saturday afternoon.

Haley Mack had a goal and an assist, while Emily Bergland and Alexis Joyce scored for the Beavers. Goaltender Kerigan Dowhy stopped 32-of-33 shots she faced for the win.

Madison Farrand (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) scored her first goal of the season for the Tigers, as Baylee Trani (Huntington Beach, CA/New England Hockey Club) assisted on the third period goal. Brittney Gout (Caledon, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) led the Tigers with seven shots on goal, while Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) added six in addition to winning 13-of-20 face-offs. Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary’s Catholic) also won 12 draws on the afternoon. In net, Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) made 37 saves.

Bemidji State out-shot the Tigers, 40-33. The Beavers were 1-for-4 on the power-play, while RIT was 0-for-3.

RIT came out with a lot of intensity in the opening period, firing 11 of the first 15 shots on goal. The Beavers would open the scoring on a power-play just 2:40 into the contest, as Bergland converted on a feed from Mack for her fourth goal of the season.

Bemidji State scored the only goal of the second period, while out-shooting RIT 21-9 in the frame. Joyce would give the Beavers a 2-0 lead 4:45 into the period on a feed from Mak Langei.

The Beavers extended their lead to 3-0 as Mack scored her seventh goal of the season just 1:20 into the final period, as Abby Halluska recorded her second assist of the day.

RIT would get on the board 4:06 into the final period on Farrand’s first goal of the season. RIT would continue to pressure the Beavers, out-shooting them 12-10 in the third period. Lanteigne was pulled for the extra attacker with just over two minutes left, but RIT could not get to within a goal.

Bemidji State has won all four meetings between the two schools. Yesterday, the Beavers defeated RIT, 5-2. Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep) and Cornine scored for the Tigers, while Lanteigne made 55 saves. Last season, Bemidji State won both meetings at the Gene Polisseni Center by scores of 3-1 and 5-1.

RIT wraps up the fall semester and 2017 calendar year with a pair of games at Union College of the ECAC on Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16. Friday’s game begins at 6 p.m., while Saturday’s contest starts at 3 p.m.
