The Hobart College hockey team moved up two spots to No. 7 in the nation in this week’s USCHO.com poll. In addition, sophomore goaltender Alexander Connal (Simsbury, Conn.) and first-year Travis Schneider (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) were named to the NEHC’s weekly honor roll.
Hobart improved to 8-2-3 overall with a 5-1 non-league win over Connecticut College on Saturday. The Statesmen are 5-1-2 in the NEHC. Hobart is tied for ninth in the nation in scoring defense (1.92 ga/gm) and tied for 19th in scoring offense (3.62 g/gm). The Statesmen are currently riding a six-game unbeaten streak which is the fourth longest in Division III.
Connal played all 60 minutes in Saturday’s win. He made 26 saves in the victory, improving to 5-1-1 this season. Connal is sporting a 1.70 goals against average and a .935 save percentage this year. He ranks second in the NEHC in both categories. His goals against average is 11th in the nation.
Schneider shared a team-high with a season-high two points against the Camels. He chipped in a goal and an assist. Schneider set up what proved to be the game-winning goal in the second period and notched his third goal of the season early in the third period. He has logged three goals and five assists for eight points this year.
The Statesmen are back in action on Friday, Jan. 5 and Saturday, Jan. 6, when they compete in the 2018 Pathfinder Bank/Oswego State Hockey Classic. Hobart faces Manhattanville (5-4-2) on Friday at 4 p.m. No. 4 Oswego (9-2-1) will host Skidmore (1-11-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday. Saturday’s championship game will be played at 7 p.m., and the consolation game will be played at 4 p.m.
