RYE, N.Y. – Junior assistant captain Bryan Platt (Trumbull, Conn./Springfield Pics (USPHL)) scored once in both the second and third periods as the Manhattanville College men’s hockey team came back to defeat Connecticut College by a 2-1 score in non-conference action at Playland Ice Casino on Tuesday night.
Manhattanville (6-4-2) snapped a two-game losing streak to Connecticut College (3-6-0) thanks to Platt, who scored both Valiant goals on the evening. Senior assistant captain Thimmy Garbenius (Nykvarn, Sweden/Sodertalje SK (SWE)) and junior Cory Anderson (Bakersfield, Calif./Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL)) also picked up assists on the night as well.
The Camels struck first at the 7:00 mark of the opening period, as Paul Capozzi found the back of the net 18 seconds into the visitors’ first – and only – power play of the night. But that would be the only shot to get past junior Tyler Feaver (Whitby, Ont./Whitby Fury (OJHL)), who turned aside the final 24 shots he faced to pick up the victory.
Platt evened the score at 10:43 of the middle stanza with a power-play goal of his own, as he deflected home a Garbenius shot just seven seconds into Manhattanville’s fourth man advantage of the night. Feaver then made sure the game stayed tied with a pair of huge stops on a Matt Michaud breakaway just moments after Platt’s first tally.
Feaver continued to come up big with 11 more saves in the third period, which allowed Platt’s second of the night to stand up as the game-winner. With 5:37 gone by in the third, the junior fired a puck from the left circle that took a strange carom and somehow eluded Camels netminder Connor Rodericks for his third goal of the year.
Manhattanville finished the night with a 41-26 edge in shots. Feaver made 25 saves to earn his fourth win of the year, while Rodericks made 39 saves in a losing effort.
Manhattanville will head north to the Pathfinder Bank/Oswego State Hockey Classic this weekend, beginning with a first-round matchup with former ECAC West rival Hobart College on Friday beginning at 4 p.m.
