TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s hockey team has added freshman Donovan Ott to the roster, it has been announced by head coach Dave Smith. He comes to the Engineers from the Johnstown Tomahawks of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).
“Donovan is a versatile power forward, who has an elite shot,” said Smith. “He can play a heavy game and contribute in all three zones.”
A forward from Lebanon, Pa., Ott played in 17 games this season for the Tomahawks, collecting seven goals and eight assists for 15 points. He also appeared in five contests for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the United State Hockey League (USHL). In 57 games for the Tomahawks in 2016-17, he registered 57 points on 32 goals and 25 assists. He played in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Surrey Eagles in 2015-16 and the Wenatchee Wild from the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in 2014-15.
Ott becomes the ninth member of the freshman class, following the departures of Gavin Payne and Troy York over winter break. Mike Gornall, who was added to the roster earlier this week, is not eligible to compete for the Engineers this spring due to NCAA transfer rules.
