Buffalo State’s senior goalies Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/JFK) and Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) were each named to the D3Hockey.com National Men’s and Women’s Teams of the Week respectively for their stellar play this past weekend.
Sylves, a graduate student studying economics and finance, recorded his nation-leading fifth shutout of the season with 28 saves in a 3-0 win over Brockport on Saturday. He also had 30 saves in a 1-1 tie against No. 8/9 Geneseo on Friday. Sylves finished the weekend with a .983 save percentage and a 0.48 GAA. He is third in Division III this season with a .946 save percentage and leads the nation with a 1.50 GAA.
Silva, a dual major in forensic science and biotechnology, made 27 saves for her school-record ninth career shutout on Saturday in a 0-0 draw at Potsdam. She also had 27 stops in Friday’s 3-1 victory over the Bears. For the weekend, Silva posted a .982 save percentage and a 0.48 GAA.
Both teams return to action at home tomorrow with the women hosting Oswego at 4 p.m., followed by the men’s game against Fredonia at 7 p.m.
