FLOP Wins NYS Girls Ice Hockey Championship

BY RANDY SCHULTZ –OSWEGO, NY- The Frontier, Lake Shore, Orchard Park (better known as FLOP) girls high school ice hockey team completed their year-long quest or mission Sunday afternoon at the Marano Campus Center on the campus of SUNY Oswego. They defeated Salmon River, 4-1, to win the 2018 NYSPHSAA Girls Ice Hockey Championship.
After losing to Skaneateles last year in the NYS Championship game, 4-1, they came back strong to win it all this year. There was no stopping FLOP today.
Brooke Becker opened the scoring mid-way through the first period to give FLOP a 1-0 lead. Gabby DeMeo assisted.
FLOP continued in the second period adding two more goals. The first came from Haylee Tatar with Abigail Lillis assisting. Then Emily Kromer made it 3-0 with DeMeo assisting again.
Becker rounded out the scoring for FLOP mid-way through the third period to give the eventual champions a 4-0 lead with an unassisted goal. Emma Ransom rounded out the scoring in the game for Salmon River to make the final score, 4-1.
Sportsmanship honors for the game went to Salmon River goalie, Carli Cartier and FLOP’s Sirena Fitzery.
