Williamsville Top Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew In Girls Quarterfinals

BY RANDY SCHULTZ – AMHERST, NY – Elizabeth Jackson scored two goals and helped lead the Williamsville Girls High School ice hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew (LID) in the third quarterfinal game of Tuesday evening for the WNY girls high school playoffs.

Following a scoreless first period Jackson opened the scoring for Williamsville at 1:23 of the second period. Emily Schule assisted.

Less than a minute later Williamsville struck again, this time with an unassisted goal by Jenna Piotrowski, making the score, 2-0.

LID cut that lead in half at the 5:55 mark of the second stanza when Morganne Dee scored to make the score, 2-1. Morgan Zaaccarine and Jillian Blas assisted.

With 23 seconds remaining in the period Sam Ingham increased the Williamsville lead to two again, 3-1. Amanda Gaffney assisted.

Jackson scored the loan goal of the third period scoring into an empty net with just 32 seconds remaining in the period. Jenna Cavalieri got the assist to make the final, 4-1.

LID outshot Williamsville for the game, 27-21. Rose Quattro stopped 26 of 27 shots she faced for the victorious Williamsville team.
